The University of Denver men’s soccer team played Air Force Academy on Sunday to close out a three-game home stretch. Air Force Academy played well enough to steal the win away from the home team, 3-0. The match was fairly evenly fought and the Pioneers never gave up throughout the contest. Starter Scott Muir of the Falcons was able to score two goals on three shots on goal. Both of those goals came in the third corner and only served as icing on the cake as neither team had much offense with only 7 shots on goal between both teams. This loss brings the Pioneers to a 5-5-1 overall record and a 1-2-0 record in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation. Freshman Chet Anderson said, “This loss is uncharacteristic of our team, and I am confident our starters will be able to bounce back next weekend on the road.”This was a tough conference loss for the Pioneers to swallow, but they will be able to return to form next weekend on their trip to California with two conference games. They will play Sacramento State on Friday and San Jose State on Saturday. The Pioneers have not played these schools yet but will play them this weekend and next weekend in their last home stand for the fall season. This will give the Pioneers a chance to move up in the conference standings and to greatly improve their overall record.
