It becomes more difficult to see whether Governor Owens or Professor Churchill has more tar on his hands now. While the notion of “academic freedom” may confer only limited license, certainly the Governor must know that freedom and responsibility are joined at the hip. Too many think they have the freedom, while others have the responsibilities. We hear much from Washington about freedom; but people learn what they see more than what they hear. The professor might have been merely asserting that the “war on terror” is both like and UNlike other wars; that war is not just a video game. Dresden’s citizens learned this in WWII, just as did the people of Atlanta in 1864. I dislike most of what is said by Rush Limbaugh, but I’m not demanding he quit or stooping to a televised duel. It’s more difficult to be a patriot when one is bleeding. — Gregory Iwan, Preliminary Candidate for the Doctor of Philosophy Degree.
