Human rights author

Author William F. Schulz will be speaking about human rights at DU in Driscoll Ballroom from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday.

Schulz is the author of “Tainted Legacy: 9/11 and the Ruin of Human Rights.” Book sale and signing will follow his lecture.

Talk about AIDS

The HIV/AIDS Awareness group will host a talk about AIDS tonight from 7 to 9 p.m. at the GSIS Cyber Cafe.

Students will share their first hand experience with AIDS and issues around the world.

Food will be provided.

Open house party

A team from DU’s Graduate Tax Program is a national finalist in the third annual National Tax Case Study Competition.

The team members are Nicholas Gray, Adam Reedy, Travis Smart and Kathy Vawter.

The national competition is for undergraduate and graduate tax students. Regional competitions were held Oct. 16, and the national event will be held Nov. 19-21 in Orlando, Fla.

Teams have five hours to complete a complex, hypothetical case study that tests the students’ knowledge on a variety of tax topics.

This year’s graduate-division finalists are University of Denver, Brigham Young University, University of Central Florida, University of Kansas, University of North Carolina Charlotte and Utah State University.

The winning team, in both the undergraduate and graduate divisions, will receive $10,000 for their school and $1,000 scholarships for each team member.

D.C. internships

The Barbara Jordan Health Policy Scholars Program is offering internships to African American, Latino, Asian/Pacific Islander and American Indian/Alaska Native college seniors and recent graduates.

Students will be go to Washington D.C., work in congressional offices and learn about health policy.

The Kaiser Family Foundation established the Scholars Program in honor of former U.S. Rep. Barbara Jordan, who was a Foundation Trustee.

The program runs from May 24 to July 29.

Scholars receive $5,000, which includes a stipend, daily expense allowance, airfare and lodging.
