Patience has proven to be a virtue for the University of Denver women’s lacrosse team after snapping a six game losing streak with home wins against both Regis and Saint Mary’s.

Patience Baldwin, a senior midfielder, got the Pioneers headed in the right direction against Regis after scoring at the 23:04 mark of the first half.

Freshman midfielder Kate Broderick scored the next two goals and sophomore midfielder Steph Greenlees added a fourth goal to make it 4-0 for the Pioneers. Regis scored the next three goals courtesy of Colleen Merrick, Katie Ryan and Chrissy Yetter.

But the Pioneers closed out the first half in good shape as freshman forward Jessica Rae Lodders and Greenlees each put in a goal. The Pioneers controlled the pace on both sides of the ball during the second half as Regis only scored three more times.

Freshman attacker Ann Ballantyne, junior defender Crystal Jack, Broderick, Passavia, Baldwin and Greenlees all scored again in the second half for the Pioneers. Junior goaltender Steph Schneider only had to make one save on 12 shots in the Pioneers 17-6 thumping of the Rangers.

With the victory, the Pioneers ended a six-game losing streak that began March 17 in a 15-5 defeat by Duquesne. The Pioneers took the field two days later to face Saint Mary’s.

Jack, Greenlees and Broderick each scored four goals to lead the Pioneers to a 17-8 victory over the Gaels. Saint Mary’s Lauren Riggers scored the first goal of the game, waking up the Pioneers’ offense.

The Pioneers scored five of the next six goals and the last four goals of the first half. Sisters Colette and Jackie Spencer scored two quick goals for Saint Mary’s to open the second half, but the Gaels only managed to score two more times during the rest of the game. Denver added eight more goals, four of which were unanswered.

Baldwin netted three goals and had two assists while Schneider denied 20 shots as the Pioneers advanced their record to 5-7 overall and 2-2 in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF). The Pioneers will play their final regular season home game tomorrow at 7 p.m. against the Colorado College Tigers.They will finish the season in Illinois against Ohio Saturday May 1 and against Northwestern Sunday May 2. The MPSF Championships will be held at Pioneer Field Thursday May 6 and Saturday May 8.
