More than 40 city, state and government, community service, human service, and environmental groups are participating in the 8th annual Nonprofit and Government Career Fair in the Driscoll ballroom from 1 to 4 p.m., sponsored by the Academic and Career Development Center.

Some of these organizations include the Bacchus and Gamma Peer Education Network, AmeriCrops, Child Rescue Foundation Inc, Denver Rescue Mission, U.S. Marine Corps and U.S. Census Bureau. Each organization is looking for a variety of positions for students and alumni to fill. Positions range from volunteers and interns to part-time or full-time paid workers.

During the fair, two presentations will take place in the Driscoll Gallery. At 2 p.m. Megan Frigon, from Outward Bound, will present Careers and Jobs in Non-Profit Organizations. The U.S. Department of State information session will be held at 3:30 p.m.

“This is an opportunity for students to see what is available,” Pat O’Keefe, a career counselor at the Career Center, said. “It is also an opportunity for organizations to make themselves known to students and alumni.” O’Keefe is in charge of organizing Wednesday’s fair as well.

The fair is for all students to get exposure to other organizations accepting interns and summer employees. O’Keefe’s goal is to offer students the potential to meet employers and experience non-profit organizations or government organizations. O’Keefe does not think that students realize there are real jobs available in nonprofit organizations and there are lots of opportunities.

For the past seven years, DU students have had the opportunity to establish connections with employers or organization representatives at the career fairs. O’Keefe want to see more students offer their services to the community through these organizations.
