Chicago based punk band Lucky Boys Confusion drew a sold-out crowd to the Gothic Theatre on March 30 for one of their final shows before launching a nationwide tour.
The upcoming tour is in support of their most recent album Commitment, which was released last October.
Previously regarded as difficult to categorize, drummer Ryan Fergus described the album as “a darker record. It’s a little more serious and it’s a little more rock. A more focused straight ahead rock record.”
“Hey Driver,” the first single off the album, has been playing in regular rotation on radio stations nationwide, which is a first for the band.
Since their 2001 release of Throwing The Game, the five members of Lucky Boys Confusion have constantly been on the road, gaining a larger fan base each day.
“When we go on the road, we’re going into battle every day and we are trying to convert new fans every day and trying to fight the good fight,” said Fergus.
“Especially if we’re opening up for a bigger band, and it’s not our crowd. We have to convert their fans into liking us. It’s kind of a constant struggle for us but it’s a fun one.”
Lucky Boys Confusion, known to fans as LBC, had no problem attracting fans to the show at the Gothic.
The sold out show included local opening acts Last Show Tragedy, DORK and Love 45.
When LBC took the stage, the energetic crowd rocked out to favorite songs such as “Hey Driver,” “Atari,” “Mr. Wilmington,” “Bossman” and “Fred Astaire.”
After the set, the band was urged back to the stage by audience chants demanding an encore.
LBC finished the encore with a powerful performance of “3 To 10.”
“The atmosphere LBC created was unbelievable.
Not only does the lead singer, Stubhy really draw the crowd in, but also the entire crowd was full of energy from the previous bands,” said fan Michelle Woodruff, 18, as she and other sweaty, smiling fans left the venue.
“It was one of the most fun and energetic shows I have gone to,” said Woodruff.
Next Lucky Boys Confusion will hit the road with Story of the Year, Hazen Street, and Adair before opening five shows for Reel Big Fish.
The tour continues through April 28 and ends in Lancaster, Pa. with a concert.
