Carina Round’s follow up album The Disconnection is definitely one to consider the next time you’re at the record store.
She brings to the current music scene a unique combination of sounds. With a voice similar to Leigh Nash of “Sixpence None the Richer,” great melodies, and minor cords all layered over crisp drum beats, she will definitely get quality airtime. Her album is an excellent female modern and acoustic rock album, which has been missing in female solo artists since the pop princesses have taken over.
But by no means is her new album a light album; her music is reminiscent of James Bond title theme songs with their slow, minor and dissonant cords. Her sophomore album does not try to jump into the music scene with a catchy pop tune; she has already toured with the likes of Coldplay, David Gray and the Godfather himself, James Brown.
Her album a menagerie of different music styles from jazz to rock. She says this about the album, “It’s still a personal record but this time, it’s a celebration of the things I’ve discovered about myself as opposed to ranting about the things that bother me.”
Her first album gave off the impression that this singer/songwriter was a “tortured soul.” If you are looking for a new artist that doesn’t sound like everything else being played on the radio, check out Carina Round’s new album.

Ice Cube, Cedric the Entertainer, Queen Latifah and Eve are back together again starring in the hilarious sequel, “Barber Shop 2: Back In Business.”
The movie’s soundtrack is “both the perfect complement to the film and a stellar stand-alone” writes an Interscope Records reviewer. It includes a variety of hip-hop artists ranging from Mya and Sean Paul to Spitfiya. Beginning with “Not Today,” the soundtrack highlights R&B’s first lady of modern soul, Mary J. Blige. In contrast, Eve balances out Blige’s flowing rhythm, appearing in two hits, alongside Blige and in “Never” with Keyshia Cole. G-Unit brings up the beat with a bubbly hit followed by an equally bouncy single “All,” by Olivia. Sean Pau”s typical echoing-reggae beat adds a little more diversity to the Barbershop soundtrack.
The 15-track CD includes a range of R&B artists, and is overall very upbeat and light. The different artists blend well together, providing a great backdrop for a comedic movie.
If brand-new, hip-hop tunes excite you, then the soundtrack, which has already spawned a new hit single since its Feb. 3 release, will satisfy your listening ears.
