Conservative radio host speaking at DU

Bridges to the Future and the University of Denver presents Reginald Jones and his talk “Be Nice to Rich People” Thursday from 7:30 to 9 p.m. in Gates Hall in the Newman Center for the Performing Arts.

Jones is an outspoken conservative African-American and spokesperson for the African American Leadership Group Project 21.

Jones hosts a national radio show, Grassroots Live, and has appeared on Fox News Channel, MSNBC, CNBC and C-Span.

Jones offers “a simple message of empowerment” for the black community which is capitalism.

Attorney Abrams receiving award

The Estlow International Center for Journalism and New Media at the School of Communication will be hosting First Amendment Attorney Floyd Abrams.

Abrams will receive the Anvil of Freedom Award.

He will deliver the Estlow Lecture at 7 p.m. on Monday, at Gates Hall in the Newman Center.

Abrams will speak about the Bush Administration and the First Amendment

The lecture is free and open to the public. Tickets are required and available in the Mass Communications and Journalism Studies office or by calling x2357.

Earth Day events

The community Action Program, the DU Environmental Team and the Environmental Awareness Living Learning Community are sponsoring DU Earth Day 2004 this week.

The DU Environmental Team will be celebrating Earth Day on Driscall Lawn on Thursday.

On Saturday, there will be a Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado Project in Chatfield Nature Center from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

About 250 DU students, staff and faculty will be planting wetland shrubs at the Nature Center. For more information on the DU volunteer project, visit www.du.edu/cap/.

Winona LaDuke (Ojibwe), renowned Native American speaker and environmental activist, will speak on the importance of working toward environmental justice on May 3 at 7 p.m. in Sturm Auditorium.

Annual women’s conference

U.S. Rep. Diana DeGette will be the featured luncheon speaker at the ninth annual Women’s Studies Conference, “Building Alliances.”

The conference will take place Friday, April 30 from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Driscoll Ballroom.

Three other speakers are: Michele “Mike” Bloom, dean of The Women’s College, Cynthia Secor, director of HERS and Mid-America, and Marla J. Williams, president and CEO of the Women’s Foundation of Colorado.

All DU faculty, staff and students are invited to participate. The last day to register is Friday.

The Graduate Student Associations Council invites all musicians to come and share their talent with the Denver community on Saturday, May 22, at the first ever International Music Festival hosted at DU.
