Discuss file sharing and gay marriage

The Forum will hold a discussion tomorrow from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the Honors Seminar Room in Mary Reed.

Topics will include “Peer to Peer File Sharing: Should P2P file sharing be illegal?”

Discussion questions will include: What can be done to prevent copyrighted files from being shared? How should our administrative bodies intervene if at all?

Gay marriage will also be discussed. Questions will include: Will an amendment save marriage and from what? How should the government intervene if at all? What is marriage and why do marriage benefits exist? Is this a discrimination issue?

Go Italia at the I-House luncheon

The International House Luncheon Event will present “Ciao Italia!,” an information session on studying abroad in Italy, on Thursday from 12:30 to 2 p.m.

Attendees may experience glimpses of Italy, Italian Culture, music and food with a special guest, the Honorary Vice Consul of Italy.

Opening reception for gallery held

An opening reception for the Faculty Exhibition will Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Victoria H. Myhren Gallery.

The gallery features works by the University of Denver School of Art and Art History’s studio art and eMAD faculty.

The exhibit will run through May 7 and is located in the Shwayder Art Building, 2121 E. Asbury Ave. Hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m Monday through Friday and noon to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

LA director comes to teach in Denver

L.A. DIRECTOR Tom Logan, feature film and television producer, is coming to Denver Friday through Sunday.

Logan is offering three courses over the span of three days for $275. On Friday, the class is “The Business of Show Business,” which takes students through the casting process from a director’s point of view.

Saturday’s class is “Think You Know How to Audition for Commercials?” which teaches students how to not get nervous in auditions.

The class “Auditioning for TV, Film, Soap Opera and Sitcom” is on Sunday. Both Saturday and Sunday’s classes are held from 9 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Submit writing for contest

Columbia: a Journal of Literaure and Art is accepting entries of poetry, fiction or non-fiction for its 39th issue of the journal. The deadline is March 31.

Winners in each category will receive $500, as well as publication in Columbia.

The judges are Timothy Donnelly (poetry), Jessica Hagedorn (fiction) and Stephen O’Connor (non-fiction).

Address submissions to the poetry, fiction or non-fiction editor and enclose a $10 reading fee for each set of 5 poems or each fiction/non-fiction submission (up to 20 pages).

U.S. Immigration Policy vital to Jews

Sponsored by the Institute for Public Policy Studies, there will be a discussion held taught called, “Why U.S. Immigration Policy is the Most Important Public Policy Issue for Jews” tonight.

The panel is held from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. in the Renaissance Room North in the Mary Reed Building.

Stephen Steinlight and Ira Mehlman will be guest speakers.

Steinlight, past Director of National Affairs (domestic policy) at the American Jewish Committee, is considered the leading figure from the organized Jewish world to challenge its support for open immigration.

Ira Mehlman, media director of the Federation for American Immigration Reform, appears regularly on radio and television programs.

HILLEL events calendar packed

The chabad will be hosting “The New York City Deli Purim” Sunday evening. The event will start at 4 p.m. with hors d’oeuvres and Megelliah reading. The Purim feast begins at 5 p.m. The Purim will be held in the Chabad of South Denver, located at 2205 S. High St. Attendees can enjoy New York Kosher Deli Foods and the DU Klezmer Band.

The American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) is holding a dessert reception Tuesday, March 9 at 7:30 p.m. in the Cable Center. The reception will feature Daniel Pipes, director of the Middle East Forum and member of the presidentially appointed board of the U.S. Institute of Peace.

Witness 500 students compete

Roughly 100 judges and 500 missle and high school students will take over Sturm Hall on Saturday to compete in the 13th Annual World Affairs Challenge. This international studies competition, held all day and sponsored by the Center for Teaching International Relations at GSIS, involves quizzes, presentations, collaborative questions and posters.
