Is it worth the risk? “Along Came Polly”, the recent Universal Pictures movie, is all about throwing caution to the wind and taking chances.

Screenwriter and director, John Hamburg, who co-wrote “Meet the Parents” and “Zoolander”, said that, in writing the film, he would “think of a normal situation and take it to the comic extreme, making it worse and worse.”

Straight-edged Reuben Feffer, played by Ben Stiller, has made a lifetime out of assessing risks and minimizing danger. His carefully designed future, however, takes an unexpected turn when his wife, played by Debra Messing, dumps him on their honeymoon after fooling around with a French scuba instructor.

Through a series of grotesque and comedic events, the humiliated Reuben takes a wild leap of faith and goes after childhood pal, adventure-seeking Polly Prince played by Jennifer Aniston.

Polly teaches Reuben to live in the moment, introducing him to stomach-turning spicy foods, exotic salsa dancing, and her blind Italian pet ferret. All the while they experience countless, sickening mishaps along the way. Life is risky, Reuben learns, but so is love, especially with Polly.

So, is it worth the risk or eight-dollar tickets?

Kassidi Cypher commented, “it was pee-your-pants-funny, but nothing I haven’t seen before.” The romantic comedy falls short in surprise, tension, and originality.

But if you’re up for a good laugh, Stiller and Aniston paired together will charm and tickle your funny bone with their uncanny and often disgusting absurdity.

It is impossible to overlook the talented cast supporting them, including actors such as, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Messing and Alec Baldwin. If “Zoolander” and “Meet the Parents” were your kind of flicks, then “Along Came Polly” will certainly be worth “the risk.”
