DU dean honored by Hispanic Bar

the Colorado Hispanic Bar Association (CHBA) will honor University of Denver College of Law Dean Mary Ricketson with the 2004 community service award for her commitment to promoting diversity at the college.

Ricketson will be presented the award Jan. 24 at the CHBA’s annual gala. The award is given annually to a nonprofit organization or an individual.

Since Ricketson began serving as dean in 1999, more than 100 Hispanic students have been accepted to the College of Law.

Experience ‘spirit’ in Newman Center

pianist Darrell Grant will perform selections from his latest CD, “Spirit,” that draws on pop anthems and jazz standards. Proceeds from the concert will benefit the nonprofit Colorado Conservatory for the Jazz Arts “Youth in Jazz” program.

The concert will be held Sunday at 7:30 p.m. in the Hamilton Recital Hall in the Newman Center. The cost is $15 for adults, $12 for seniors and $8 for students and children under 12.

Tickets may be purchased at the Newman Center box office, the Richie Center box office or through TicketMaster.

Jewish Memorial lecture on Gratz

The Rocky Mountain Jewish Historical Society and Beck Archives Center for Judiac Studies is hosting the fifth annual Professor John C. Livingston Memorial Lecture in American Jewish History Feb. 11 at 7 p.m. in the Driscoll Ballroom.

The subject of the lecture is “Rebecca Gratz and the American Dilemma.” Gratz was considered the foremost American Jewish woman of the 19th century and a role model for future generations of social activists.

The lecture is free and open to the public, but reservations are required. Please call x3016.

Potluck supper by ISO tonight

The International Student Organization is sponsoring a pot luck supper tonight at the International House on South Josephine Street from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.

The ISO is looking for help to organize the largest DU student-run event on campus, the “Festival of Nations,” which will take place on April 3. The ISO needs volunteers for six committees: booth, entertainment, public relations, technological operations, decoration and finance. Logan Collection at DU gallery

Robert Colescott and Glenn Ligon from the Logan Collection are featuring culture in paintings, prints and photographs that probe self identity and communal history. The exhibit will run from now through Feb. 27. The gallery will be open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday-Friday. and 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. It is located in the Shwayder Art Building in the Mhyren Gallery.

Celebrate Martin Luther King Day

Join the Center for African American Policy, Center for Multicultural Excellence and Bridges to the Future in celebrating “The Legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.: Expressions of an Activist” in two events.

On Wednesday, Bryan H. Barrows will present a one-man show titled, “Who Was Martin Luther King?” The show begins at 7:45 p.m. and tells the the story of the evolution of the civil rights movement and King’s place in it.

Friday, at 7 p.m. Grand Design Dance Group will present “Expressions of an Activist,” and will speak about Martin Luther King. Both events will take place in the Driscoll Student Center. For more infomation, contact Veronica White at X4195 or at vwhite@du.edu.

Any students that are interested in pursuing a career in public relations are invited to learn about the public relations organization of students.

There is a meeting tonight at 5 p.m. in the mass communication building lounge. You will learn about networking opportunities, help with the School of Communication Summit 2004 and hear guest speakers.
