Driscoll Lawn is coming back. The temporary parking lot that gobbled up the north end of the lawn is gone, and the traditional gathering place for students – not only to hang out but to be seen – is being restored from East Evans to East Asbury.
Construction on campus has not stopped since the Daniels College of Business was finished in 1999, and it is continuing with the remodeling of Driscoll lawn, the summer facilities project and the new HRTM School.
Construction workers are making a large elliptical limestone bench as well as brick pathways around the perimeter and through the lawn area. The rest of the area will be lawn again.
The bench is supposed to act as an enclosure of the area from Evans Avenue to Asbury Avenue. It will be hundreds of feet long.
The project started about three to four weeks ago and is said to be done by the middle of October. The planning and design for this project started about a year and a half ago.
The summer facilities project is a development in front Skyline Apartments. This project includes locating and relocating of all utility lines.
Eventually, several new lines will be installed including a storm serve line, a sanitary sewer line, a gas line, electrical lines, and a fiber optic and data communications line. This project is an effort to upgrade services for the existing buildings as well as the new buildings.
The design for this project began a year ago and the construction started four weeks ago. It is said to be finished by December 12.
Other projects going on or that will start soon include the new Women’s College building, the new UTS building, Craig Hall, the new HRTM school and the wrap up of the law school.
