Lamont holds musical performances

The Lamont School of Music operetta production, The Merry Widow will open Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. at Gates Hall in the Newman Center.

The performance will be repeated on Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2:30 p.m. Reserved Seating Admission is $25, $20, $15 or $10 and $23, $18, $13, $8 for students and seniors.

Before the Thursday performance, a fundraisor will be held for the Newman Center. “A Merry Night” will include a dinner with wine, free parking and reserved seating for the operetta at the cost of $125 a ticket.

Students at the Lamont School of Music will hold recitals throughout the week.

Senior Jack Sanders will present a saxophone performance Wednesday 7:30-9 p.m.

Junior Zack Cassell will present a saxophone performance Sunday 4-5:30 p.m.

Ethan Rogers will also give a piano performance on 7:30-8 p.m. on Sunday. All performances will be held in the Recital Salon in the Newman Center.

The Climb, part of the Lamont School of Music, will perform 7:30-9 p.m. in Gates Hall at the Newman Center.

Reserved seating is $12 for general admission, $10 for seniors and free for students.

Recycle your computer

The city of Denver and Dell will host a computer recycling and donation event Saturday at Invesco Field at Mile High, Lot A. Those donating or recycling the computers must clear the hard drive of all information and remove any floppy drives or PC cards. The computers will be given to local charities.

Weaving traditions

Weaving Authentic Traditions: Native American Basketry of California and the Great Basin will be showing at the University of Denver Museum of Anthropology, Sturm Hall room 102, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Friday this month. Societal barriers

Jesus Trevino, associate provost for Multicultural Affairs, will discuss the barriers that prevent society from multicultural excellence today at 3 p.m. in Renaissance South in Mary Reed Building.

Trevino will focus on such issues as racism, sexism, heterosexism and ableism in “Sleepwalkers and Zombies”-Barriers to Multicultural Excellence.” To attend the event, register online at www.du.edu/hr/training.

The event is part of the University of Denver Frontiers Colloquium.

Cyber Cafe gets new name

The Cyber CafCB) will be dedicated and renamed 4-6 p.m. today. Tom Farer, dean of the Graduate School of International Studies, will be on hand for the dedication. A wine and cheese reception will follow the event.

The new name will be revealed at the ceremony.

Veterans of Hope

The Graduate School of International Studies will hold “Lunch with a Professor: ‘The Veterans of Hope Project'” Wednesday at noon in the Great Hall at the Iliff School of Theology.

Rachel Harding, executive director of the Veterans of Hope Project, will be at the event. The project explores the histories of older women and men who worked for social transformation in the United States.

Albright, Brown honored

Former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright and Former Senator Hank Brown will both be at the 2003 University of Denver Korbel Dinner Aug. 8.

The dinner is being held to pay special tribute to Albright, the keynote speaker, and will honor Brown and Peter Kudla. Honorary chairs will be John Sie, founder, chairman and CEO of Starz Encore and co-chairs Robyn and Robert Loup and Susan Barnes-Gelt and William Stanfill. The event will be held at the Denver Marriott City Center at 6:30 p.m.

“First Night” runs through weekend

“First Night or Whatever,” the Department of Theatre’s spring production will continue this weekend in the Flexible Theater in the Newman Center. The performances will be held 7 p.m. Thursday, 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday.
