“Manufacturing Consent: Noam Chomsky and the Media,” a documentary on the views and opinions of intellectual and political activist Noam Chomsky, was presented last week in Lindsay Auditorium.
The film showed Chomsky being interviewed both on radio and television as well as speaking at colleges, universities and other institutions.
Chomsky’s book, Manufacturing Consent was brought up in the film because each media focuses on the same subjects.
Throughout the documentary, Chomsky focuses on large media companies, such as The New York Times, network television and large radio conglomerates. He said he believes that major media companies are “agenda setters” for the United States and the world.
Chomsky supports other voices in media, particularly alternative radio stations and magazines. He urged Americans to sample a variety of media outlets to avoid getting information from the media giants.
