DU participants had their ups and downs when see-sawing non-stop for 24 hours on Driscoll Lawn Thursday and Friday to raise money for kids to attend Camp Fire USA.

“Over 700,000 kids go to Camp Fire USA a year,” said junior Jaime Clark of Gamma Phi Beta, which sponsored the See-Saw-a-Thon.

All of the other sororities and fraternities got involved as well.

Freshman Tyler Marshall of Sigma Alpha Epsilon said, “After 30 minutes, you get very dizzy, but we’ve got to support the Greek system.”

“Our wood was going up all night, ” said another Sigma Alpha member, David Leech.

Sophomore Jason Hornberger said, “Our fraternity, Theta Chi, gets involved because we want to support Gamma Phi in their efforts to raise money for Camp Fire USA, but we also have a great time building our see-saw and hanging out with everyone else in Greek Life during the event.”

See-sawing for hours and hours is certainly tiring, but definitely worth it, according to Hornberger.

“Last year we drove to Krispy Kreme and bought doughnuts for everyone who took the midnight to 6 a.m. shifts,” he said.

Raffle tickets were being sold for $1 all week, which gave students a chance to win gift certificates to local bars, restaurants, hair salons and clothing stores.

Free food was also provided.

“The See-Saw-a-Thon was completely worth it because everyone always has a ton of fun and we help raise money for a great charity…everyone wins,” said Hornberger.
