The latest HBO dysfunctional family, the Fishers of “Six Feet Under,” made their third season premiere this past Sunday.
The series follows the Fisher family members as they go about their daily dealings in death, grief and explore many other disturbing drama issues of their lives.
In 2002, the unpredictable HBO series won six Emmy Awards and a Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series Drama.
The series also won a Grammy award for Instrumental Composition for the “Six Feet Under Theme,” composed by Thomas Newman.
By mixing together dark comedy and melodramatic irony, “Six Feet Under” brings the taboo topic of death to the small screen through the eyes of the Fishers, a very dysfunctional family who runs an independent funeral home.
The story so far – the patriarch of the family Nathaniel Fisher dies and leaves the family in chaos. His wife Ruth, sons Nate and David and daughter Claire are then left to cope with the intricacies of the family business.
This season continues the story of the family’s quirky lives with thirteen new episodes.
“Six Feet Under” is the brainchild of Alan Ball who wrote the screenplay for 1999’s Oscar winning film “America Beauty.”
Recently, the first season of “Six Feet Under’ was released as a four-disc DVD set, with many extra features. The show is on Sunday night on the cable channel HBO.
