INTERNATIONAL STUDIES UNDERGRADUATES now have an organization of their own and a new building where they can feel at home.
The International Studies Students Association (ISSA) organized last spring with the hopes of building a community where international studies students can meet and network about courses, teaching methods, professors and study abroad venues. The organization will enable students to meet others in the same major, “be exposed to all the different aspects within the program and make it easier for people to figure out where to go,” said May Lee, ISSA treasurer.
International Studies students are also beginning to use the newly renovated Ben Cherrington Hall.
Undergraduates should “take advantage of the new building,” said Layla Hilton,ISSA co-president. “Undergrads will see more graduate students” as well as lots of other people with similar interests.
The ISSA is similar to the Graduate School of International Studies, which “has a great set up,” but the ISSA is for undergrads, said Hilton. The club is open to all majors and minors, as well as those planning to take INTS courses in the future.
Right now six people run the association, but they are looking to expand said Solomon Malekou, ISSA co-president.
