The University of Denver Office of Communications issued a warning yesterday about safety in the dorms after a sexual assault in Centennial Halls Feb. 24.
The statement said the victim may have known her attacker and drugs may have been used.
“The university posts crime-alert notices for cases of stranger-on-stranger rape, but does not post notices in cases of date and acquaintance rape. Campus Safety officials urge students to use common sense in protecting themselves from victimization. Do not accept a drink from anyone except a bartender,” said Warren Smith, director of News and Public Affairs.
Much of the concern last week was centered around the lack of flyers on campus warning students about a possible rapist. No one was able to comment on the status of the investigation or details of the attack.
“The University of Denver takes the safety of the campus community very seriously. The university has an obligation to balance campus safety and individual student rights, including the right to privacy for sexual-assault victims,” Smith said.
The four most common drugs used in rape are Rohypnol, GHB, Ketamine, and alcohol, according to the Young Women’s Project.
