The Mile High Club is a vocal presence at University of Denver athletic events.

The Mile High Club is an organization that aims at drawing student support to Pioneer athletic events and generally raising support for DU athletics.

The club was founded in 1999 and the current president is Todd Wangaard.

The club may be best known around campus for its T-shirts. Toyota helped the club to produce 1,500 shirts, and the club chose “Experience the Mile High Life” as a slogan.

Fans saw the club in action on the concourse behind the student section at the most recent Colorado College-DU hockey game at Magness Arena.

Club members were handing out shirts and signing people up for an informational e-mail list. Members in the club receive an e-mail containing news about athletic events.

Also, the club rented buses and made trips to Colorado Springs to catch both of the CC vs. DU games this year. Tickets for the game were given away and the students on the bus said they had a “good time.”

Wangaard said that at the moment the club is a relatively low commitment organization. He said plans are currently under way “to make the club more efficient and active during the athletic seasons.”

Chairperson positions are available according to the particular athletic season taking place. Students looking to get involved can e-mail Wangaard at twangaar@du.edu.

The organization is one of the new and “in” clubs on campus, as evidenced by its most well-known member, Chancellor Daniel Ritchie.
