Women’s basketball team lost, 67-59, to the Sun Belt Conference East Division leader Florida international last Saturday at Golden Panther arena.
Denver fell to 8-9, 4-1 while FIU improves to 14-4, 5-0 to become the only team undefeated in Sun Belt Conference play.
The loss ends the Pioneers 18-game winning streak in regular season conference games dating back to last season.
FIU got out to an early 10-point lead, but Denver Pioneer Nikki Weddle scored six points in the Pioneers’ 13-4 run that closed the game to only one point at 26-25.
The Panthers scored six straight points to give them an eight point lead, but Denver stepped in by scoring five points at the end of the half, leaving them only two points behind.
In the second half, with a 10-5 run, DU scored six points before FIU shot off a 10-2 run.
In the end, Florida overcame the Pioneers attack and earned an eight point victory.
The Pioneers will play their next two games this weekend on the road against North Texas on Thursday night and Western Kentucky this Saturday.
