On Thursday, Sept. 18, one of DU’s newest RSOs, Sisterhood DU, held its first event of the year at the Community Commons. Their inaugural event was an arts and crafts night complete with snacks, conversation and music.

The event began with an introduction of the 2025-2026 executive board with President Paula Yeboah-Akosah, Vice-President Selena Johnson, Secretary Madison James, Treasurer Raeesah Ajani and Social-Media Coordinator Danielle Sor. The organization’s faculty advisor, Dr. Indhira Udofia also made an appearance and announced her willingness to be a resource and ally for each student moving forward. Dr. Udofia is also the faculty director for the Colorado Women’s College (CWC) Leadership Program.

After introductions, students were invited to craft to their heart’s content. They got creative, making friendship bracelets, collages, drawings and more. If crafting wasn’t their forte, they still had a blast while engaging in intriguing conversation with their peers, ranging from topics like R&B artists to their celebrity crushes, while munching on Chips Ahoy and charcuterie boards.

“I was grateful for the opportunity to connect and bond with other Black women. I’m really excited for future Sisterhood events,” said Tylah Stewart, a first-year sociology major.

The Sisterhood E-Board wanted to host an event where people could meet, chat and unwind after a long week. They were happy to see a diverse group of people show up to their event and be in community with each other.

The goals of Sisterhood DU include fostering a sense of community and belonging for Black women, femmes and their allies on campus while also creating a culture of self and community care. Future events will focus on self-care and community themes, while also exploring education, career development and empowerment.
