On May 2, the Tri Delta sorority hosted ‘DHOP,’ a charity event that offered all-you-can-eat pancakes from 8 p.m. until 3 a.m.

DHOP, Delta House of Pancakes, is a philanthropy event where all the proceeds go towards St. Jude’s Children Hospital

St. Jude’s Children Hospital is created to “advance cures, and means of prevention, for pediatric catastrophic diseases through research and treatment.” Through donations, the hospital helps ensure every child receives the treatment they need.

Tri Delta has been in partnership with St. Jude since 1999 and since then, they have helped raise $100 million towards the organization’s efforts. Due to Tri Delta’s support throughout the years, they have been able to fund the building of another St. Jude Hospital, Tri Delta Place in Memphis, Tenn.

During fall quarter, the sorority hosted Jammin for Jude, where student bands performed and raised awareness for the philanthropy. During the winter quarter, Tri Delta partnered with the University of Colorado Boulder’s Tri Delta chapter to host Sincerely Yours. During the event, participants went to the Tri Delta house at Boulder, shared a meal, toured their house and wrote letters to loved ones using St. Jude stationery.

DHOP was Tri Delta’s third event this year. The Vice President of Community Relations Olivia Trego and Director of Philanthropy Meghan Walsh helped plan the event. However, this event could not have been as successful without the help of the rest of the chapter.

All members of Tri Delta advertised the event on their Instagram stories. They also tabled for the event outside of Sturm to sell tickets, and they hung up flyers.

During the event, members had different responsibilities, such as helping with check-in, cooking the pancakes and recruiting other students on campus.

DHOP goes beyond DU — this is Tri Delta’s event across the nation. While DU hosts their event in the spring, other chapters host it at different times, making the charity event continuous throughout the year.

During DU’s event, the sorority sold lots of tickets to students and members of Tri Delta at Boulder. Tri Delta first-year, Keira Guerra, was beyond excited for the event.

“DHOP is our biggest philanthropy event of the year. When they told us the theme I was already planning on what I should wear. All of the girls in my pledge class walked over together to help set up,” said Guerra.

Tickets were $10, and participants were invited to all-you-can-eat homemade pancakes. So far, they have raised over $5000. Many of the participants there even engaged in pancake-eating competitions.

From 8 p.m. to 3 a.m., members of the chapter, students and others ate until they physically could not eat anymore — a very fun and rewarding way to help raise money for such a great cause.
