On Oct. 12, the Crimson and Gold returned to Hamilton Gymnasium to take on the University of St. Thomas. DU won their second game in a row in five sets. 

Set one started with Denver trailing behind in points. This set was tied a total of four different times throughout. At 21-20, St. Thomas took permanent hold of this lead, resulting in Denver’s loss with a score of 22-25.

Set two was riveting because Denver eventually overtook the lead. St. Thomas and Denver both played a strong offensive game during this set that had a total of 11 different ties. Junior outside hitter Ava Reynolds was swinging strong the whole game, ending with kills in the double digits. 

Set three ended with a tough loss for the Crimson and Gold. They fought their way back from a seven-point hole but ultimately were unable to take the set. St. Thomas won with a score of 25-22.

Set four was a Denver win that started off strong. Early on, Denver took the lead and held onto it for the entirety of the set, maintaining a 10-point lead over St. Thomas. Senior middle blocker Molly Mirabelli helped secure the team’s victory this set by putting up strong blocks to stop St. Thomas’ offense. 

Set five was a Denver win with a score of 16-14. Denver started off the set on the wrong foot, falling as much as six points behind St. Thomas. The Crimson and Gold had a total of 14 kills during this set, which led them to their victory in this match.

Four different Denver players had double-digit kills during this match, and playing strong on the offensive side helped Crimson and Gold secure their second Summit League win of the season. 

After improving to a 7-8 record, Denver returns to Hamilton Gymnasium on Oct. 17 to take on Omaha in their Pink Out game.
