The No. 7 Pioneers split the weekend series with the Miami RedHawks by scores of a 3-1 loss and a 5-2 win.

On Friday night, The Pioneers took 49 shots against the RedHawks defense but fell short to Miami and their goalie, Ryan Larkin. The RedHawks were able to tally the first goal of the game at the first intermission despite the Pioneers outshooting the RedHawks 17-5. The RedHawks took advantage of their opportunities as they scored two goals in a span of 47 seconds to take a three-goal advantage into the second intermission. Sophomore Ian Mitchell (Calahoo, Alberta) breached the scoring sheet for the Pioneers with the assist from Junior Liam Finlay (Kelowna, B.C.). The Pioneers got their first home defeat since Dec. 7. Sophomore Devin Cooley (Los Gatos, Calif.) recorded 18 saves on the night.

On Sunday night, Denver was able to capitalize on multiple opportunities unlike the Friday night. Denver took an early lead with a one-timer from senior Jarid Lukosevicius (Squamish, B.C.) with an assist coming from Mitchell and freshman Emilio Pettersen (Mangerlud, Norway). The game tied at one when a shot went over freshman Filip Larsson (Stockholm, Sweden) shoulder. Going into the third period at 1-1, the Pioneers were able to step up to the challenge and score four goals, coming from sophomore Jack Doremus (Aspen, Colo.), Junior Tyson McLellan (San Jose, Calif.), Lukosevicius—his 100th career point for the Pioneers—and senior Colin Staub (Colorado Springs, Colo.). Larsson finished the night with 15 saves.

The Pioneers will be taking on Colorado College Tuesday, Feb. 25, at 7 p.m. MST.
