The Crimson and Gold’s men’s soccer team faced off against Creighton University in a competitive matchup that remained scoreless  through the first half. Despite numerous chances from both teams, neither team was able to score in the  opening half.

Junior defender Will King was put up a strong defensive performance during the first half. King played all 90 minutes of the match and helped Denver’s defense keep Creighton scoreless. 

In the first half, Denver looked to establish control and create a chance in the attacking third. The Crimson and Gold worked to move the ball up the field and generate offensive pressure while keeping Creighton from finding an opening. 

The first half remained a defensive battle as both teams fought to gain an advantage. Denver’s defense held Creighton without a goal, sending both teams into halftime tied 0-0. 

Freshman goalkeeper Alex Hohl had two saves during the first half.  

Coming out of halftime, both teams continued to battle for possession of the ball and looked to break the deadlock.

Eventually, Creighton broke through in the second half. The Bluejays took the 1-0 lead and forced the Crimson and Gold to respond with 22 minutes remaining.

Denver continued to push forward after falling behind, working to create chances and find an equalizer, but Creighton’s defense kept Denver off the scoreboard. 

As the final minutes approached, Denver increased its offensive pressure in an attempt to tie the match. The Crimson and Gold created opportunities in the attacking third, but the Bluejays held onto their 1-0 advantage.

The final whistle brought the match to an end with Creighton University securing 1-0 victory. 

Freshman midfielder Ethan Orchard was the leading offensive player for Denver, finishing with four shots, two of them being on goal. 

Fifth year forward Kyle McGowan also recorded shots on goal as Denver looked for an equalizer.  

Denver finished the match with 16 shots, eight shots on goal, two saves and six corner kicks while Creighton recorded six shots, three shots on goal, eight saves and three corner kicks. 

Denver is set to face  the University of San Diego on Sept. 26, in San Diego.
