The weekly Undergraduate Student Government (USG) meeting on Feb. 5 passed four bills and two proposed collaboration fund requests. Discussed in the Feb. 4 meeting, the Single-Use Plastic Ban Amendment was passed this week and will now be a part of USG’s contributions to DU’s 25 by 25 Sustainability goals. The goal of this amendment is to make the ability to purchase single-use plastics not possible through student funds, excluding third-party vendors.
Also passed was the Emergency Funding Amendment. This gives Registered Student Organizations (RSOs) who have received funding from USG and who have come across unforeseen circumstances resulting in additional need for funding to apply for up to $200 from a set-aside emergency fund. The passing of this amendment will result in this availability, but also the creation, of an additional pool of funds to be allocated as the Emergency Fund.
As an amendment to the Student Advocacy Position description within USG bylaws, the passing of this bill will cause a change in the details of the position within the organization. The amendment to the Ex Officio members’ description also received a passing vote at the meeting.
Funding approved at this meeting will go to two groups of organizations. Cru+Campus Ambassadors+Young Life+Alpha Delta Chi requested funding for their Bridge (Worship and Waffles) Event occurring on Feb. 20. Kappa Phi Lambda+ASA+CSSA+SASA were granted funding to host a Lunar New Year Presentation occuring on Feb. 15.
Discussed at this meeting and tabled for a future meeting include a fund request from the Food Recovery Network for Zip-Car food recovery and two tabled bills: Finance Committee Manual Amendment and Official Stance on Test Optional Admission.
