The women’s basketball squad scored a pair of conference victories over weekend home battles against the University of Nebraska Omaha and Western Illinois University to get to fourth place in the Summit League with a 3-2 record.
The Pios overpowered Nebraska Omaha 73-66 last Thursday at Magness Arena. The win was the Pioneer’s fourth this season, making their record 5-15 so far this season.
Sophomore Paige Bradley led DU with a double-double, scoring 17 points and adding a career-high of 11 rebounds.
The Pioneers made all eight three-pointers in the first half alone and had a 73.1 percent average from the free-throw line against Omaha. At the half, DU had a four-point lead.
This past Sunday the Leathernecks of Western Illinois arrived in Magness Arena. Another Summit League matchup provided and additional win for DU, by a margin of 87-83.
Sophomore Kailey Edwards led the Pioneers with 25 points and shot at 76 percent.
Going into halftime, Denver led Western Illinois by nine points.
Conference play will continue for the Pios as they travel to South Dakota State for three games on Saturday, Jan. 30.
Four home games remain at Magness Arena for the Pioneers this season.
