Science discussion
Dr. Paul Doherty will speak on Friday afternoon at 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in Olin Hall, room 105, on the subject of “Second Life” and what it can do for education.
Second life is a three-dimensional interactive computer-based system utilizing computer games and virtual reality.
Dr. Doherty, a senior staff scientist at San Francisco’s Exploratorium Museum, has created a “virtual” museum in “Second Life” that makes it possible to do hands on science demonstrations, no matter where on Earth you happen to be.
The concept is now being employed at DU. One can, for example, visit the virtual Meyer-Womble Observatory on Mt. Evans and examine Hubble astronomical images through the telescope on your own computer.
