Hunger Banquet

Latino Heritage Month celebration

Tonight from 6 to 7:30, join the DU Latino Center for Community Engagement and Scholarship as they kick-off Latino Heritage Month at DU. The event will be held at the Cyber Cafe in Cherrington Hall. Beto Juarez, dean of the College of Law will speak.

Expert on economics to speak

The lecture “The U.S., Germany and the Governance of the International Economy” will be presented by Adam Posen on Thursday from 12 to 2 p.m. in Room 301 of Ben Cherrington Hall. Posen is the deputy director of the Peterson Institute for International Economics in Washington, DC. He is an expert on monetary policy and has done extensive research on macroeconomic policy, European and Japanese political economy and central banking issues. Posen has also written several books including “The Euro at Five: Ready for a Global Role?”

Hong Kong lecture

On Thursday from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Hong Kong Commissioner Margaret Fong will present “Hong Kong: A Global Citizen” as part of the Jackson/Ho China-East Asia Forum. Fong is the Hong Kong commissioner for economic and trade affairs, USA. Fong directs Hong Kong’s efforts to promote the economic and trade relationship between Hong Kong and the United States.

Librarian documentary

The documentary “Hollywood Librarian: A Look at Librarians Through Film” will be shown on Thursday from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at Lindsay Auditorium in Sturm Hall. The documentary was written and produced by LIS graduate Ann Seidl. Seidl earned a master’s degree in library science from DU. The film gives insight into the profession of librarianship. Teach for America info session

Students can learn more about Teach for American on Thursday at 7 p.m. An information session will be held in the Renaissance South Room in the Mary Reed Building. Sputnik at 50, golden anniversary of

A gathering at DU’s Observatory Park will be held on Thursday to honor the 50th anniversary of Sputnik. The event is free to the public and will take place from 8 to 10 p.m. For more information contact Chase Squires.

Speaker from Water for People

Nina Miller, manager of Water for People, a local Denver-based NGO will speak to students on Friday from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Water for People aids people in developing countries by helping them develop locally sustainable drinking water, sanitation facilities and health and hygiene education programs. Alumni Symposium Weekend

DU’s Inaugural Alumni Symposium will take place this weekend. Students are encouraged to participate in small group discussions and hear lectures from faculty. Events will include two keynote addresses by alumni Andy Taylor and Bob Perito. The symposium will also feature four educational lectures by DU faculty including “Can Wisdom be Taught?” “Hope and Healing: The Enduring Cultural Impact of the Negro Spiritual,” “The Global Financial System: Trends, Policy Challenges and Vulnerabilities” and “When Your ATM Becomes Your EPT.” There will also be a panel discussion led by Chancellor Coombe. “Gay? Fine By Me” T-shirt Project

Students can participate in the “Gay? Fine By Me” T-shirt Project every day next week from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The purpose of the project is to give a voice to Americans who support equal rights for homosexuals.
