While many DU students enter the thick of this quarter’s workload, the library is offering support in writing, math and research.
Despite the need for help amongst overwhelmed students, the services are being under utilized.
The three help centers offer free, invaluable assistance to University of Denver students seven days a week. A combination of dedicated undergraduates, graduate students and professors work diligently to ensure that students do not sink in a sea of stressful essays, research projects and calculus problems.
Students looking for help with any sort of writing from analytical essays to resumes can make an appointment for a writing consultation via webCentral or can drop in with quick questions during “Happy Hour” Mondays through Thursdays from 4-6 p.m.
“We work collaboratively with all kinds of writers on all kinds of texts,” said senior Devon Varoz, a consultant in the Writing Center.
Consultants will talk students through their assignments during any stage of the writing process.
The Math Center supplies support for Algebra, Trigonometry, Business Calculus and Calculus I, II and III classes.
“I initially felt overwhelmed by my math class, but the Math Center helped me manage my homework and get on the right track,” said freshman Caroline Escobar.
The Research Center helps all students and faculty with research questions big and small, according to Erin Meyer, coordinator of the center.
There are five ways to seek help from the Research Center: in person, on the phone, or via email, instant message or text message. Although about 1,100 students had one-hour consultations last year and 11,000 questions were answered at the help desk, most students, unfortunately, do not take full advantage of this assistance, which many past users have declared a godsend, Mayer said.
