The University of Denver hockey team took a hit last Saturday, losing for just the seventh time this season to North Dakota, 4-1 The players from the University of North Dakota must have used their accents to overpower the practically undefeated Pioneers.

Despite the loss, junior goaltender Wade Dubielewicz earned his second consecutive WCHA goaltending title, finishing the regular season with a 1.79 goals average. Dubielewicz also set a new conference mark for single season saves percentage in WCHA only play, finishing with a .942 saves percentage.

To top it off, DU also secured its first McNaughton Cup in 16 years on Friday, so the weekend was not a total loss. The Pioneers will also be the No. 1 seed entering the leagues post-season play.

After finishing out the regular season, the now ranked No. 2 hockey team is getting ready to play its first post-season game by hosting Michigan Teach in the first round of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association playoffs this weekend.

The Pioneers and Michigan Tech have encountered each other four times this season, twice in Michigan and twice here.

The Pioneers won all four games by an impressive total score of 22-8 and have won five staight and 15 of the last 16 meetings.

Michigan Tech enters the post season play after winning only one of its last four games and only one of its last twelve.

The only hope of the Huskies defeating the Pioneers is sophomore wing Brett Erngelhardt who has scored 32 points in 36 games.

All three of this weekend’s games are scheduled to air in Denver on AT&T Cable Channel 21.

Friday and Sunday games can be heard live on KKFN AM 950 “The Fan.”

Saturday’s radio broadcast will be aired on KCKK AM 1600.
