The DU men’s swimming and diving team finished in second place this past weekend at the Sun Belt Conference Championships in Nashville, Tenn., while the women finished in third. Head coach Brian Schrader was named the SBC male coach of the year for the second consecutive year, junior Blake Worsley was named the SBC male swimmer of the year and senior Kelsey Totura earned female swimmer of the year honors for the second consecutive season. Diving Coach Erik Cook was named SBC diving coach of the year and junior Aaron Feight earned male diver of the year. The men finished 34 points behind champion Missouri State University and the female 70 points behind Western Kentucky. Worsley captured the 100-freestyle with a conference record time of 44.29 and also claimed victories in the 500-freestyle and 200-freestyle events. Totura won her fourth consecutive SBC 200-backstroke title, freshman Grace Kittle won the 200-breaststroke and the women won the 400-freestyle relay. Both Kittle and Totura have qualified to race in the NCAA Championships later this month… The women’s lacrosse team fell 12-11 to No. 9 Georgetown in overtime yesterday at Peter Barton Lacrosse Field. The game was originally scheduled for Sunday, but was postponed due to poor weather. Sophomore Lexi Sanders scored five goals, while junior Karen Morton finished with two goals and three assists and junior Steph Coyne netted a goal and four assists. No. 15 DU falls to 2-3 on the season and will host Connecticut on March 11 at 4 p.m. … The No. 37 women’s tennis team improved their perfect record to 10-0 over the weekend with a 6-1 home victory over Texas- El Paso. The Pioneers won all three doubles matches and Mallory Voelker once again led the way with a dominant 6-0, 6-0 performance. DU will next play this Saturday at home against conference foe North Texas at 1:30 p.m. … The No. 59 men’s tennis team opened their weekend in Eugene, Ore. with a 5-2 loss to No. 27 Washington and followed it up with a 4-3 victory over Oregon. Denver improved to 10-2 and was led by Adam Holmstrom who won both of his singles matches. DU will play at Texas Tech this weekend.
