Not only does the University of Denver hockey team hone its skills on the ice at Magness Arena, but this weekend numerous skaters will partake in the 29th annual University of Denver Ice Show.

The event features the DU hockey team along with acclaimed international skaters, special Olympians and local skaters.

This year show is called “Silver Screen on Ice” and the show recently announced that this year’s feature skater will be Braden Overett.

Overett was national collegiate champion in 2003 and has been an 11-time national competitor and a 9-time international competitor. Overett should feel right at home during the show, being a DU alumnus. Overett came to DU as an undergraduate and began his training with renowned figure skating coach Susan Williams. Most recently, Overett graduated from DU with a bachelor’s degree in business management.

The “Silver Screen on Ice” is a professionally produced show and will highlight local skaters from the beginning level all the way to the national level. Also special Olympians and Learn to Skate participants will partake in the show. The show will also include a special appearance by the DU hockey team.

This year’s theme of “Silver Screen on Ice,” pays tribute to both old and new Hollywood classics, including: “Wizard of Oz,” “Mary Poppins” and “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” among others.

The performances will take place this Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. and a 1:30 p.m. performance on Sunday. All shows take place in Magness Arena.
