The Pioneers capped off a weekend of solid play at the Raider Challenge with impressive wins over the University of West Virginia and over tournament host Wright State on Saturday.

With the wins, the Pioneers improve their record to 6-4 on the year.

After a dominating the West Virginia Mountaineers with a 3-0 match victory early in the day, the Pioneers fell behind early to Wright State in the evening match, losing the first two games. DU then rallied to win three straight games to capture the come from behind victory.

The pair of wins on Saturday helped to end a two-game losing streak that began with a hard fought loss to No.3 UCLA in the championship match of the Pioneer Classic on Sept. 10.

Then, after dropping another tough match to the University of Akron in the first game of the Raider Challenge, the Pioneers picked up their play.

The Pioneers blocked 10 shots and had 10 service aces in trouncing the Mountaineers. Senior Lisa Hunter led the way with 16 kills.

In the evening match against the Raiders of Wright State, the Pioneers set a school record for digs in a game with 102. Sophomores Holly Benson and Claire Maxwell helped to lead the effort with 27 digs and 54 assists respectively.

The wins helped the Pioneers to garner some personal accolades as well. Hunter and Junior Kim Muller were voted onto the Raider Challenge All-Tournament Team, while Head Coach Beth Kuwata earned victory number 150 in her DU coaching career against in the game against West Virginia.

The Pioneers see action today, when the University of Wyoming comes to Hamilton Gym.
