WHAT DO YOU get when you put Samuel L. Jackson in a kilt full of super drugs?
A hilarious movie that will leave you with a nice high.
In this action-packed comedy Samuel L. Jackson plays disgraced super pharmacist Elmo McElroy. McElroy has created a new designer drug that is 51 times more intense then any stimulant, narcotic or hallucinogen yet devised.
The real kick is that it can be made from common household products anyone can purchase from a corner drugstore. McElroy heads off to Liverpool, England to sell his formula as his final big deal, but there are a few snags along the way.
As McElroy makes his premier on the British rave scene, he comes across a slew of dangerous characters, including crime boss “The Lizard” (Meat Loaf), his key sniper Dakota (Emily Mortimer) and others who are all after his revolutionary formula. The film climaxes at a Manchester United soccer game with double crosses and gruesome deaths.
The film is a hard-hitting action comedy. Jackson plays the tough-guy role to perfection, but that’s to be expected, after all he is Jackson.
Director Ronny Yu, veteran of the Hong Kong cinema, seems to have a hard time with the non-action scenes, but still manages to piece together high-quality action film.
With a stellar supporting cast; Robert Carlyle, Emily, Mortimer, Rhys Ifans and Meat Loaf, the film is solid from beginning to end, and then end is not when the credits start rolling. Stick around because the movie is not over.
“Formula 51” is rated R for strong violence, language, drug content and some sexuality.
