The Beta Chapter of Alpha Kappa Psi, the University of Denver’s business fraternity, hosted its first annual golf tournament on Saturday at Kennedy Golf Course in Aurora.
Eleven fraternity brothers and 17 business professionals played an 18-hole round of golf.
Businesses from around the Denver area made donations or sponsorships. Businesses included Merritt, Spring Board Group, Financial Investment, Retirement Plan Design and other engineering and financial businesses.
Before tee time, unlimited complimentary driving range balls were available.
Tee times started at noon. Prizes were awarded to first-, second- and third-place golf scores and the raffle drawing winners.
Schulyer Sanders, DU senior; Chris Bergund, DU alumni; Tom Hewul, Tom Hewul CPA; and Tom Green, Channel 2 won $50 gift certificates for first place in the tournament with a par of 62.
Throughout the day, contests were held and donated prizes were awarded. Dinner and awards followed the tournament.
Stephanie Bulthaup, vice president of Operations for Alpha Kappa Psi, said, “This is an opportunity for brothers to get to meet professionals in the business field and for us to expose ourselves to the professional community.”
Most business had a connection with the DU community through a relationship with a Alpha Kappa Psi brother or through DU graduates as an employees.
The businesses participated to support a great opportunity and to play a fun game of golf.
Joe Cesare said, “The event was a chance to support a group we know and a fun chance to do it.”
Ceasre from Joseph A. Ceasre and Associates, a geotechnical engineering company, was involved with the tournament because one of their employees is a DU graduate.
Because the professional business fraternity was re-established this year, donations and sponsorships, totaling over $2,200, will cover the event’s costs.
Bulthaup hopes to use the following years’ proceeds to provide the fraternity with other opportunities.
He hopes to fund such events as professional speakers and their annual cooperate dinner.
