The No. 16 women’s golf team is currently in second place at the Las Vegas Showdown after day one of action. The team shot a 3-under par 285 and enter the final round of the 54-hole tourney 3 shots behind leader Tennessee. Junior Katie Kempter led the way with a career-low 18-hole score of 5-under 67 and sits tied atop the leaderboard after day one. Senior Chelsea Benton and junior Dawn Shockley both shot an even-par 72 to be in a tue for 10th place… The hockey team will play on Friday at Minnesota and then will take Saturday off before completing the series on Sunday afternoon. The reason for no Saturday play is because the Golden Gophers have a football game against Illinois… Former DU defensemen Matt Carle has played in all 11 games for the San Jose Sharks of the NHL this season and has netted four assists… Former Pioneer Paul Stastny is off to quite a second-year start for the Colorado Avalanche leading the team in points with 15 on five goals and 10 assists through 11 games… Gabe Gauthier is also leading his club, the Manchester Monarchs in points with 12 on four goals and eight assists through eight games… The women’s volleyball team matches up against state foe Colorado State for the 11th time tonight and are 1-9 against the Rams all time. The last time the two teams battled was Sept. 6, 2005 in Hamilton Gymnasium with DU winning 3-1.
