Led by freshman Espen Kofstad, the DU men’s golf team battled its way to a fifth place finish in the Wolf Pack Classic in Reno on Oct. 3.
The Pioneers put together under-par team scores in each of the first two rounds to finish the 54-hole tournament at 3-over par 867, 25 shots behind tournament winner Iowa State University.
Kofstad fired an opening round 67 on his way to an 11th place finish at 3-under par. It was the first time in Kofstad’s young DU career that he was the low Pioneer in an event.
Finishing three shots back of Kofstad was sophomore Jeff Koprivetz, whose even-par total of 216 was good for 20th place.
Rounding out the DU lineup was sophomore Chris Gillman, senior Charlie Soule and sophomore Daniel Wax. They finished 36th, 41st and 61st, respectively.
The fifth place finish marked the Pioneers’ best finish of the season after failing to get in the top ten in their first two events.
The Pioneers are in action as they play in the District 7 Fall Shootout in Las Vegas.
