Friday night at Cervantes in downtown Denver was truly a piece of history. The Wailers of Bob Marley and the Wailers played a two-hour performance of old Marley favorites, with a new and exciting spin.

The crowd, consisting of all races, ages and genders, all met at Cervantes to experience one thing: the love of music. The Wailers came on around midnight, three hours after the doors opened, and the small and cozy feeling venue was truly packed to the brim.

The Wailers played old favorites such as “I Shot the Sheriff” and “Three Little Birds” and even jammed to an encore of “Redemption Song.” The band did not have a moment where they weren’t smiling. Their passion for music, and messages for love and peace was very apparent and infected the crowd. Not a single body was standing still. No matter your age or mood, you couldn’t help but enjoy the tunes. Even the bar staff at Cervantes took a few minutes time out from their job to dance to the music.

The show did not use any unique light shows or dances or funky sound effects.

The band showed up ready to play and show the crowd that they haven’t lost their true artistry in music. Most people came to enjoy the music, but a few people like Mike Omar, originally from Jamaica, came to see The Wailers to reminisce on their heritage.

No matter your age or heritage, The Wailers came accepting everyone and playing music to spread messages of love in such hard times. Everyone left the concert with a smile, and singing along to some of the songs played. Not only was it a night of history, but love as well.
