Women’s LacrosseDU 18, UC DAVIS 1
The Pioneers have won two straight as Denver viciously defeated Fresno State Monday afternoon in Fresno, Cali.
Karen Morton was the leading scorer with three goals and two assists.
Kaiti Delaney also managed a hat trick while Tulley Sapp had two goals and two assists.
Steph Coyne also scored two goals and two assists. With her two assists, Coyne is tied for 10th in NCAA history, with 128 career assists.
Lexi Sanders and Lauren Ciccomascolo also managed two scores of their own.
The Pioneers came out fast, scoring five goals in the first five minutes of the game.
Denver has a week off before heading to the MPSF Tournament in Stanford, Calif., on April 23-26. Denver will either be a two or three seed entering the tournament.
Men’s TennisDU 1, BOISE STATE 6
Denver only managed one point in one match against Boise State, Thursday at the Appleton Tennis Complex in Boise, Idaho.
Benny Althaus continued his string of solid play with Denver’s only victory of the match.
Althaus defeated James Meredith 3-6, 6-3, 11-9 to improve to a team-leading 14 and 4 in singles.
Denver did have two others, Yannick Weihs and Andrew Landwerlen, that took their opponents to three sets, but come up short.
The Pioneers record has fallen to 9 and 10 going into the Sun Belt Conference Tournament. Denver is on a three match losing streak headed into their biggest matches of the season.
DU returns to the court at the Sun Belt Conference Tournament on April 17-19 in Denton, Texas.
Men’s GolfDU 2ND
The Pioneers tied for second place in the ASU Thunderbird Invitational Saturday with a total score of four-over par 856.
Arizona State won the tournament after scoring a 14-under par 838. DU tied with San Diego State.
Jeff Koprivetz led the Pioneers with a ninth place three round score of even par followed by Daniel Wax, with a final score of one-over par, good enough for 16th place.
Troy Anderson, competing as an individual apart from DU, managed an 11-over 224.
Espen Kofstad finished tied for 23rd with a 2-over par 215 performance.
Chris Gilman finished just behind Kofstad, tied for 25th with a 3-over par score of 216.
Klinton Krieger rounded out the tournament for DU as he posted a score of 18-over par 231. A score good enough finish to tie for 91st.
Denver returns home to prepare for the Sunbelt Tournament Conference Championships in Houston.
The team attempts to repeat a championship in Houston, Texas from April 20 to April 22.
Men’s LacrosseDU 8, NOTRE DAME 10
Denver fell to No. 4 Notre Dame in the Sixth Annual Rocky Mountain Lacrosse Showdown at INVESCO Field at Mile High.
Six different Pioneers scored. Andrew Lay and Mark Matthews both scored two goals, While Todd Baxter scored a goal and made two assists.
The Pioneers tied the game late with two minutes remaining in the contest. However, the Notre Dame offense was too much for the Pioneers to handle as the Fighting Irish scored twice to finish the game.
“We’ve had to come together as a unit even more which is a testament to the coaches and to the captains and everyone else on the team staying cohesive and coming out and playing the No. 4 ranked team in the country. It was close,” said Joey Murray.
Denver plays Friday April 17, hosting the University of Detroit at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium at 7:30 p.m.
Women’s TennisDU 7, NORTHERN COLORADO 10
Denver ladies finished their regular season record with a commanding win over rival Northern Colorado Saturday.
It was senior day for the Pioneers as all seniors on the team received a victory at Stapleton Tennis Pavilion. With the win, DU improved to a 14 and 4 record.
Voelker, Aksdal and Iwinski led the Pioneers to their sweep with seemingly easy wins. The sweep marked the fourth over in-state opponents this season.
Denver looks to defend their Sun Belt Conference championship next weekend in Denton, Texas.
