Chili cook-off

Hot topics: marijuana
This week’s hot topic will be concerning marijuana possession in Colorado. The discussion will be led by Matt Hill, from the University Writing Program.

Cartoonist speaks
The Denver Post and Rocky Mountain News present Post-News Pen & Podium Series, a four-part literary lecture series featuring some of the world’s most distinguished and thought-provoking writers.
This week’s lecturer will be Pulitzer Prize winner Editorial Cartoonist best known for Doonesbury.

Asian cultural night
Campus Life is hosting an Asian cultural night featuring sushi, Taiko drummers, a harp player, giveaways, Japanese food, and demonstrations on how to make sushi. Event is free.

Keynote speaker
Poverty Week will feature a keynote speaker, Gwendolyn Mink.
Mink is a nationally recognized activist and published scholar on welfare, poverty, and feminism.

Child poverty speaker
Lacy Strange, from the Global Volunteer Network will be speaking about international child labor and poverty. This is another ‘Poverty Week’ event, presented by Amnesty International.

Costume party
The Business Law Society is hosting its annual Halloween party this Thursday from 9 p.m. to 12 a.m. Cost is $10 per person. There will be a costume contest at the party.

Trick or Treat Street
Each student organization will participate in hosting this year’s Trick or Treat Street.
Every organization will have a table with games, activities, and candy for trick-or-treaters. There will be a costume contest, pizza, and beverages. This event is free and open to the public.

Advising Forum
An advising forum called “Lost” for undeclared sophomores, juniors and seniors will be held on Monday, Oct. 30.
Academic Advisers and Peer Academic Advisers will be available for questions about which classes to sign up for next quarter.
Undeclared students will be able to pick up their alternate PIN number and registration form.
A print-out of the student’s Academic Progress Report (APR) is helpful to bring.

Fall Festival
The DU Fall Festival is an event to promote Halloween spirit by allowing students to engage in fall-related festivities, such as bobbing for apples, decorating pumpkins, and making caramel apples.
