Service learning fair

A service learning and experiential opportunities fair will be held today from 5 – 7 p.m. in the Driscoll Ballroom.

There will be numerous local and national organizations represented with a diverse mix of interests and opportunities available to students.

This informational session will allow students to learn about the possibilities of being more involved in the community.

Daniels discussion

The Daniels Entrepreneurship Society is presenting “Radical Quality: Transforming your business with Six Sigma.”

This discussion will feature George Eckes, Six Sigma Consultant to GE, Volvo, JP Morgan Chase, and more. Eckes is also the Honorary Chairman of the President’s Business Advisory Council.

The discussion will be held tonight at 7 p.m. in the Schneider Board Room on the 6th floor of the Daniels College of Business.

Winter carnival

The 2007 Winter Pioneer Carnival will be held tomorrow from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Driscoll Ballroom.

Various DU student organizations will be represented. Snacks and free giveaways will be provided.

Music lessons

The Lamont Students of Music Performance Organization will be sponsoring lessons for any DU student. Ten Lamont music majors will be offering lessons in voice, guitar, violin, cello, percussion and piano.

Other instruments may be available upon request. The first lesson is free. There will be a sign up sheet for these lessons at the Lamont School of Music Performance Organization table at the Winter Carnival tomorrow in the Driscoll Ballroom from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Contact information will be available at the table.

Welcome back dinner

A welcome back steak dinner will be provided on Thursday in the dining halls of Nelson and Centennial Hall.

Students without a meal plan can receive a ticket to eat for free at the Pioneer Carnival or Driscoll Bridge.

“Come see and be seen”

The “See and Be Seen – Welcome Back to DU” festivities will be held from Thursday through Sunday.

These festivities are meant to celebrate the New Year and the return of students who studied abroad during fall quarter.

The festivities will start off with tomorrow’s Winter Carnival, followed by the welcome back dinner on Thursday.

A Cheer Rally before this week’s hockey game will be held on Friday in front of the Ritchie Center, starting at 6:35 p.m.

Additional student tickets will be available for this game for $5.

The bell ceremony of the Ritchie Center’s Williams Tower will be held on Sunday from 6 – 8:30 p.m. in the Gottsfeld Room.

Guest speaker

The Center for China-United States Cooperation at DU is presenting the “Jackson/Ho China- East Asia Forum.”

This event will feature Ambassador James R. Lilley, one of the most knowledgeable US experts on Chinese and East Asian foreign relations who served in the CIA as an operations officer in various Asian locations.

Ambassador Lilley will present the lecture, “China and the U.S.: Contention and Cooperation on Korea and Taiwan.”

A reception and dinner before the lecture will be held on Thursday, Jan. 25, from 6 – 7:30 p.m. in the Renaissance Room South of the Mary Reed Building. The cost for the reception and dinner is $25 for DU students, faculty and staff.

The lecture is free and will be held in Renaissance North from 7:45 – 9 p.m. RSVP is required. Contact Yvette Peterson at 303.871.4474 for registration and further information.

“Obsession” film

The Institute for the Study of Israel and the Middle East will be featuring a film called “Obsession” about the radical war against Islam’s West.

The film will be show in the Davis Auditorium of Sturm Hall on Tuesday, Jan. 23, at 7 p.m. Cost is $5 for students.
