If you are interested in being a published fiction writer, here is your chance.

For those who have trouble with writing, but are fantastic artists, “Foothills” also offers a section for works of art.

Even if you have a short story sitting on your computer that you think is cool, here is your chance to have other people prove you right.

“Foothills” is an entirely student-run literary journal, filled with short stories, poems and works of art submitted by students.

Tom Greene, a junior, is the newly elected editor and chief and is looking for submissions for this school year.

“I always read “Foothills” and just became a creative writing major,” said Greene. “When I found out the position became available, I thought it would be perfect.”

He added, “I will try to bust one out for this year. It is kind of sad to put one out every year since the 70s and then miss a year.”

Over the summer, Greene plans to peruse other literary journals in hopes of finding ideas for next year, when he plans to do something big.

Greene admits that there isn’t much one can do with a literary journal when it comes to format.

The excellence of a journal comes from the quality of work published, said Greene. That is why he is hoping to go around to English and creative writing classes to see if anyone has stories they wish to submit for publication. “If someone is writing something really cool, we want to get it,” said Greene.

Greene plans to get the word out on “Foothills” earlier next year, but for now, he is just looking for pieces of writing or art to publish an edition of “Foothills” of a respectable length.

If you are an English or creative writing major or minor, chances are that Greene will stop by your class. If you aren’t, but have a story, please e-mail Greene at tgreene@du.edu with question or with your story as soon as possible.

This year’s issue of “Foothills” will be published near the end of the quarter and will be available to all students on the Driscoll Bridge.

Back issues of “Foothills” are still available. Contact Greene through e-mail, or contact the English Department at 303.871.2266
