Seniors Kyle Ostrow and Anthony Maiani and sophomore Matt Donovan have signed contracts to play professional hockey until the end of the 2010-2011 season.

Captain Kyle Ostrow will pursue his professional hockey career playing with the Portland Pirates of the American Hockey League (AHL). The Pirates are an affiliate organization of the Buffalo Sabres.

Maiani will be going to Wheeling, W. Va., to play for the Nailers of the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL). The Nailers serve as an affiliate team for the Montreal Canadiens and Pittsburgh Penguins.

Like Ostrow, Maiani was not drafted in the NHL draft allowing both men the ability to sign where they choose.

Ostrow and Maiani become members of the DU century point club when both players recorded their 100th career points in the 2010-2011 season. Ostrow finished his career with 105 points (55 goals, 50 assists) tied for No. 76 overall, while Maiani finished with 126 points (34 goals, 92 assists) ranking him No. 42 overall in Pioneer history.

Former DU defenseman Matt Donovan also signed with the New York Islanders earlier this week. Donovan was drafted in the fourth round of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft. Donovan made his debut on April 1 for the Tigers and has recorded one assist in two games.
