Inauguration events at DU

Inauguration watch parties will be held today on campus to watch Barack Obama being sworn in as the 44th president of the United States.

Watch parties will be held at the Driscoll Student Center Pub and Commons after 9 a.m., the Office of Internationalization at the International House after 9:30 a.m. and the Graduate School of Social Work at Craig Hall after 8:30 a.m.

Everyone is welcome, and media can attend with prior notice.

Labyrinth open for walking

Walk the labyrinth today from 12 to 2 p.m. in the 1864 Conference Room in North Driscoll Student Center.

The labyrinth is a centuries-old means of reconnecting with your inner self.

U.S. foreign policy in Middle East

“Memo to President Barack Obama: Rethinking U.S. Policy Toward the Middle East” will be discussed Wednesday at 5 p.m. in the Cyber Café at Ben Cherrington Hall.

The event, led by Dean Tom Farer, professor Josef Szyliowicz, professor Robert Prince and assistant professor Nader Hashemi, will feature a discussion of new foreign policy directions for the U.S. in the Middle East.

Lamont Chorale performance

The Colorado Music Educators Association will host a conference, attended by the Lamont School of Music staff, Thursday through Saturday at the Broadmoor Hotel in Colorado Springs.

Forum on doing business in China

Gen. Michael T. Byrnes will present “Doing Business in China – A Practitioner’s Perspective” Thursday in the Dupont Room at the Mary Reed Building from 3 to 4:30 p.m.

Gen. Byrnes is currently a senior advisor to Yuan Associates, a government affairs service based in Beijing and has served as the president for Tyco International, where he worked to promote the company’s multi-faceted business capabilities and diverse business interests. He retired from the U.S. Army on Jan. 1, 1998.

The free forum will focus on Gen. Byrnes’ experiences working in the business field in China.

Dealing with failure seminar

Business professor Corey Ciocchetti and gymnastics coach Melissa Kutcher-Rinehart will lead “Food for Thought: Perfection, Success and Failure,” a conversation about the pressures to succeed and how to deal with inevitable failure next Tuesday from 12 to 1 p.m. in the Nelson Private Dining Room.
