Black History Month

In honor of Black History Month, the Black Student Alliance is hosting a variety of events throughout campus. Today, there will be a “Soul Food Fundraiser Event” in the Sturm Law School Forum from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Also today, there will be a Hillel and BSA roundtable at the Hillel House, on the corner of Race and Wesley, from 1-2 p.m. A closing ceremony will be hosted in the first-floor Village Commons of the Driscoll Center from 3-4 p.m. on Feb. 28. DU Dialogues

Students, faculty and staff are invited to attend the DU Dialogues lecture titled, “Take Back Your Education.” The lecture will focus on six distinct components of the learning process at DU: campus climate, learning styles, technology, co-creating education, experiential learning and learning for social change.

Students, faculty and staff will share their experiences and perceptions of these areas. The event will be held tomorrow at 7 p.m. in the Craig Hall Community Room. Indian food will be provided. The event is free. Email engage@du.edu for more information.

Peace-building lecture

A conference titled “Peacebuilding and Trauma Recovery: Integrated Strategies in Post-War Reconstruction” will be held Thursday from 7:30 a.m. – 5:15 p.m.

Conference participants will explore topic-specific workshops and be part of an informal discussion. Panel themes will include: the nature of collective vs. individual trauma, the importance of cultural variables, justice and healing and the role of spirituality. Homeless lecture

The CORD (Center on Rights Development) Homeless Initiative is hosting a panel discussion on homelessness titled “Employment Services and Capacity Building as a Way Out of Homelessness?” The panel will be held Thursday, 3 – 4 p.m. in the Graduate School for International Studies Cyber CafCB).

This event will be an opportunity to learn about the homeless in Denver, to hear personal stories and to find out about the upcoming Project Homeless Connect. Refreshments will be served. Contact Tom Diegoli at tdiegoli@du.edu for more information.

African Extravaganza

The Fourth Annual African Extravaganza will celebrate African culture with a showcase of traditional dance, drumming, food and dress. Friday, February 23, 2007, 6:00-9:00 p.m. in the Driscoll Ballroom.

Hurricane Katrina talk

Global Health Affairs is presenting a lecture titled “Hurricane Katrina: Response, Recovery, Lessons Learned.”

The lecture will feature a discussion with Greg Burcham, an emergency responder with Colorado Urban Search and Rescue, and other guest speakers.

Race and Violence

A lecture titled “The Cultural Defense: An Intersection of Race, Gender and Violence in America” will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 27, from 12 – 1 p.m. in the Sturm College of Law, room 125. Media and murder talk

A lecture titled “Misogyny, Media and Murder” will be held on Thursday, March 1, from 5:30 – 6:30 p.m. in the Sturm College of Law, room 165.
