NELSON HALL OPENS DOORS IN FALL
Current students will experience trendy dorm living with the opening of the new Nelson Hall residence building in the fall.
The building will house 431 second, third and fourth-year students.
But living in Nelson isn’t cheap. The yearly cost for living in Nelson, without a meal plan is $4,662 for double occupancy and $6,378 for a single occupancy.
A student living by himself in Nelson is paying $198 more than if he lived in a single apartment in Skyline, Aspen or Hilltop. And he wouldn’t have to share a bathroom.
Residence halls, suites and apartments open at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3. Meal plans begin at lunch time.
NEWMAN CENTER FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS OPENS IN INSTALLMENTS
The music school portion of the new Newman Center for the Performing Arts will open in fall 2002. The 165,000-square-foot building has a 900-seat performance hall, recital hall and flexible theater space and will include a 478-space parking structure.
Stephen W. Seifert, former president and executive director of Opera Colorado, took the role of executive director for the Newman Center. Seifert assumed his duties July 1.
The remainder of the building will open during the spring of 2003.
CYBER CAFE NOW OPEN
Students can browse the net and zip some java all in one place thanks to the new Steve Wallace Cyber Java Lounge. The lounge was built along with the major interior renovations to Cherrington Hall. The new lounge will be a reception area and “living room” for students. The lounge will also have a fully-staffed coffee bar.
If you didn’t know, Cherrington Hall is the building in front of the parking lot next to J-Mac residence hall.
COLLEGE OF LAW STILL RISING
The next city permit for the new College of Law was issued in June, allowing the contractor to begin work above grade. Foundation caissons have been drilled, and workers are building concrete forms for walls and columns. The law school opens in 2003. This will be the first time all schools at DU will be located on a single campus.
