Discuss topics at The Forum

A new student-sponsored “town meeting” called The Forum will be held in the Honors Seminar Room in Mary Reed Hall tomorrow from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

The Forum will discuss topics such as the United States’ relationship with the United Nations and coffeeshops at DU. Attendance by students, faculty and staff is encouraged. The Forum will be an open dialogue about issues important to DU, but will not be a chaotic free-for-all debate.

Jewish culture and queer theory come together

THE CENTER for Judiac Studies are hosting a lecture Monday, Feb. 9, at 5 p.m. in Sturm Hall, room 286.

Gwynn Kessler, of Queer and Rabbinic Culture, will be talking about how to use queer theory to understand traditional Jewish culture.

African dinner and presentation

the international House Luncheon Event presents “International Service Learning,” a free African dinner and presentation. Attendees will hear what students learned as they served in India and Nicaragua during the winter interterm.

The event will be held Thursday from 7-9 p.m. at the International House on the corner of Josephine and Warren. All are invited.

Immigrate toward Boettcher

Monday, Feb. 9, the Office of Internationalization Forum Series and the International Student Connection will be hosting a forum entitled “Immigration: Open vs. Closed Borders” from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. at Boettcher Auditorium.

Guest speakers and audience members will engage in discussion about immigration issues in the United States.

Speakers include US Rep. Tom Tancredo who is chairman of the Congressional Immigration Reform Caucus, and Jeff Joseph, chairman of the Colorado chapter of American Immigration Lawyer’s Association and DU law adjunct faculty member.

Conference on teaching

THE UNiversity of Denver is hosting an all-day conference on teaching and learning March 5. The topic of the conference is “The Power of Cooperative Learning: What is it and why does it work?”

It will feature workshops, lunch with keynote speakers David W. Johnson and Roger T. Johnson, co-directors of the University of Minnesota’s Cooperative Learning Center, and poster presentations by faculty on teaching and learning. A wine-and-cheese reception is also planned.

Logan Collection at DU gallery

Robert Colescott and Glenn Ligon from the Logan Collection present culture in paintings, prints and photographs that probe self-identity and communal history.

The exhibit will run through Feb. 27. The gallery will be open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday-Friday and noon to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. It is located in the Shwayder Art Building in the Mhyren Gallery.

DU faculty-staff appreciation day

The Division of Athletics and Recreation and Human Resources is sponsoring the annual faculty-staff appreciation night Thursday, Feb. 12.

The reception is held from 5 to 6 p.m. on the fourth floor in the Ritchie Center in the Gottesfeld Room.
