Although the University of Denver Board of Trustees did not approve the constitutional changes proposed by the AUSA Senate, President Chris Adams said he will continue to work on improving the document.
Adams said the “vibe I got from the board was to create a document to withstand the test of time.”
Adams, along with the Associate Provost for Academic Resources Jo Calhoun, Associate Provost for Campus Life Patti Helton and Director of Campus Life and Senate advisor Carl Johnson, will revisit the constitution and modify the by-laws.
Johnson said the trustees need a document which they “would feel comfortable with and proud of.”
The next meeting of the trustees is mid-April. Currently the Senate is operating under the “new” constitution until changes are approved.
In unanimous vote, the AUSA Senate approved the formation of a “Tailgating Committee” last Tuesday during the regular meeting. Sophomore Sen. Yusuf Malik was unanimously voted in as the new chair of the committee. Malik said the committee would plan pre-game programs.
Off-campus Sen. Brian Villano supported the proposal because it will “increase school spirit and get the word out about sports events.”
Malik is planning to work with the basketball team for the Feb. 19 and 23 games, and will contact the lacrosse team to do a tailgating event for their tournaments against the University of Vermont and the University of Virginia. Malik suggested having a barbeque outside the Ritchie Center.
NSME Sen. James Haug suggested working with DUPB, which is in change of programming.
Aylene Quale from the Transportation Center discussed the resolution to increase the RTD fees.
She asked the Senate to accelerate the contract because the Law School Senate already approved the increase the fees for RTD passes.
Quale said the RTD will not allow the program to pass for the DU graduate students unless the AUSA Senate did the same. The fees will rise from $10 to $15, and was originally intended to incur during the coming fall quarter. Senators unanimously voted to approve the resolution to pay for the RTD passes.
