The Undergraduate Student Government (USG) looks to launch its new website with an updated look, as well as distinct methods of connecting with the student body, in late October or early November.
The current website is out of date and does not allow students to engage with USG, said Milan Chatterjee, USG President Pro Tempore.
“It does not provide a user friendly system for student organizations to apply for licensing and funding; it does not have any multimedia capability; the content management system is hard to work with; the archives does not have capacity to hold new legislation and meeting minutes/agendas and there is no way to incorporate social networking sites,” he said.
The new website aims to remedy some of these problems.
“It is imperative that we have a new website that is up-to-date and addresses all of these concerns,” Chatterjee said.
As president pro tempore and overseer of the new website, Chatterjee has some distinct goals in mind for the updated media use.
i4 Solutions, a web design firm based in Utah, has been tasked with producing the new site.
Chatterjee will work closely with i4’s project team to design a web site that makes the student organization licensing and funding process easy to use, has an organized archive of USG legislation, has archived meeting agendas and minutes, can host a video weekly address where USG members update the student body on various initiatives that are being worked on, and has social networking features which encourage DU students to be active on USG.
The team also will make sure the new site visually depicts DU’s character.
According to Chatterjee, the website redesign is costing the USG about $5,000, compared to the $15,000 to $20,000 that other companies quoted for excuting the project.
